“Music can be made a great power for good; yet we do not make the most of this branch of worship… Call to your aid, if practicable, instrumental music, and let the glorious harmony ascend to God, an acceptable offering” Ellen G. White, Evangelism, 505.
Recognizing the dearth of musicians in many Adventist churches, the Department of Music in North Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (NJC) has launched the NJC Institute of Music to facilitate training of church musicians across the parishes of St. Ann and Trelawny.
The programme caters to new and developing musicians who are delegated by the churches or who have a personal desire to learn the art. Courses offered by the programme include:
• Beginner Church Piano & Organ
• Intermediate Church Piano & Organ
• The Ministry of Music
• Fundamentals of Chorale Arrangement
The training is done on a parish level, covering several hours of tutelage each month, and already has over 60 pupils enrolled. The aim of the initiative is to mitigate the lack of skilled musicians in each church, thus enhancing the overall worship experience of congregants.
Those who are interested in the programme still have an opportunity to enrol and may do so by contacting the conference office at 876-972-8594 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
